Within the RAFF project, scientists undertook a programme of laboratory and in-situ tests in order to evaluate the properties of the materials used for the construction of reservoir slopes. This included, among others:

  • the evaluation of grain size distribution, Atterberg limits, consolidation characteristics, stiffness and shear strength parameters from triaxial tests, together with specific surface area and mineral composition from XRD analysis on the samples obtained from different depths and different open-pit mines;
  • the extensive in-situ soil characterization tests in the area of Lake Most, using cone penetration tests (CPT);
  • the evaluation of the geotechnical parameters, specifically, filtration properties in Maczki-Bór open-pit.
